The Vietnamese futsal team won a ticket to the final of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship after defeating Australia in the semi-finals. Coach Giustozzi and his team had a difficult match when they were forced to chase their opponents.
Although there were times when Australia was ahead 2-0 or 3-2, the spirit and determination of the players helped the Vietnamese futsal team win 5-4.
Vietnam's opponent in the final was the Indonesian futsal team. The team from the archipelago played impressively when defeating Thailand with a score of 5-1 and turning the home team into the former champion.
Since the AFF Futsal Cup was held in 2001, Indonesia and Vietnam have met 10 times. Of which, the Vietnamese futsal team has the advantage with 5 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw.
When the tournament first started, Indonesia dominated the confrontations with Vietnam with two wins in the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
However, after that, Vietnam became stronger than Indonesia. From 2009 to 2017, Vietnam won 5 times against Indonesia and lost 1 time to its opponent.
It was not until 2018-2019 that the Indonesian national futsal team was no longer defeated by Vietnam. Indonesia won 3-1 in 2018 and drew 0-0 in the group stage of the AFF Futsal Cup 2019.
The final match of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament between Vietnam and Indonesia will take place at 6:00 p.m. on November 10.
