A surprise happened in the semi-final match of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament on the evening of November 8, when Asia's top futsal team, Thailand, was defeated 1-5 by Indonesia.
Despite playing at home, the Thai futsal team was completely outclassed. The Thai futsal team started the game slower and conceded an early goal in the 8th minute when Rio Pangastu from Indonesia quickly stole the ball and passed it to Sumilena who scored from close range to open the scoring.
In the final minutes of the first half, the Thai futsal team tried to press the field to find an equalizer, but their finishing situations were all unsuccessful.
The second half scenario was beyond the experts' expectations when the host Thailand completely collapsed. In the 22nd minute, Wendy Bryan took advantage of a mistake in Thailand's defense and scored, raising the score to 2-0 for Indonesia. 6 minutes later, Wendy Bryan continued to score, bringing Indonesia to a 3-0 lead.
The consecutive losses had a significant impact on the mentality of the Thai players as they kept making mistakes. In the remaining time of the match, the team nicknamed "War Elephants" received 2 more goals. What the home team could do in this match was an honorary goal.
In the end, Indonesia won with a score of 5-1. This result helped the Indonesian team win a ticket to the final match against the Vietnamese team.
