This is the first time the Vietnamese futsal team has met the Indonesian team in the final of the Southeast Asian Futsal Championship. In the history of this tournament, the Vietnamese team has never won the championship. Meanwhile, the Indonesian futsal team won the Southeast Asian championship once in 2010. In this playground, the Thai futsal team is still the most successful team with 16 championships.
“We had some difficulties in the first half. But the players showed their best performance in the second half, thereby defeating the Thai futsal team.
The final match against the Vietnamese futsal team will be very interesting as they have defeated the Australian team. It will definitely be an exciting match. We need to concentrate and fight with all our might to win against the Vietnamese team,” said Hector Souto, coach of the Indonesian futsal team.
Michael Victor Sianipar, President of the Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI), was delighted with his team’s victory. He said: “The 5-1 defeat of the Thai futsal team is an extraordinary result. The Indonesian futsal team has reached a new level.
We have the right coach and strong players. We need to maintain the energy, focus and enthusiasm in the final. Hopefully we can bring the trophy home.”
The media in the archipelago country is also very interested in the final match between the Vietnamese futsal team and Indonesia. CNN Indonesia emphasized that this is the ideal ending for the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship.
The newspaper also listed the head-to-head record between the two teams in regional competitions. Since the AFF Futsal Cup was held in 2001, Indonesia and Vietnam have met 10 times. Of these meetings, the Vietnamese futsal team has the upper hand, winning 5 matches, while Indonesia has won 4 times.
When the tournament first started, Indonesia dominated the confrontations with Vietnam with two wins, 5-2 in the 2005 tournament and 6-3 in the 2006 AFF Futsal Cup.
However, since then, Vietnam has become stronger than Indonesia. From 2009 to 2017, Vietnam won 5 times against Indonesia and lost 1 time to its opponent.
It was not until 2018-2019 that the Indonesian national futsal team was no longer defeated by Vietnam. Indonesia won 3-1 in 2018 and drew 0-0 in the group stage of the AFF Futsal Cup 2019.
The final match of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament between Vietnam and Indonesia will take place at 6:00 p.m. on November 10.
