U23 Vietnam will start their journey at ASIAD 20 with a confrontation with U23 Kuwait on September 15. After the opening match, the team has 3 days of rest before meeting U23 Philippines on September 18. The group stage closes with a match against U23 Uzbekistan on September 22.
Compared to the first two opponents, U23 Uzbekistan is considered the biggest challenge for coach Dinh Hong Vinh's team. Because this match takes place in the last round, the results of the previous two rounds may affect the way U23 Vietnam chooses personnel and calculates targets.
At ASIAD 20, U23 Vietnam aims to win a ticket to the quarterfinals. Coach Dinh Hong Vinh has selected 23 outstanding players. Among these are faces who have played at many levels such as Cao Van Binh, Nguyen Minh Phuc, Nguyen Xuan Bac, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Ngoc My, Nguyen Le Phat, Nguyen Quoc Viet or Dinh Quang Kiet.
The team does not have Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Nhat Minh and some other players because the force must be allocated to the Vietnamese team to compete at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
U23 Vietnam went to Japan on September 13th and only had two days to prepare before the opening match. The short period set high requirements for stabilizing the squad, recovering physical strength and developing appropriate tactical plans.
The ASIAD 20 men's football event has 15 participating teams divided into 4 groups, including three groups with 4 teams and one group with 3 teams. After the group stage, 8 first and second place teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
