Clarify the identity of journalism in the Front system
In the third quarter, press agencies basically closely followed the information orientation of the Party, State, Fatherland Front Party Committee, central mass organizations, Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and managing agencies; implemented the principles and purposes correctly.
Propaganda content about the Front, national unity, emulation movements, campaigns, supervision, social criticism and protection of the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of the People continues to be emphasized.
Digital transformation, AI application, and multi-platform journalism development have positive changes. Press agencies also continue to consolidate their apparatus, review job positions, and train reporters and editors according to new requirements.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thang requested press agencies to proactively develop information plans for the fourth quarter, closely follow major guidelines, resolutions, policies and work programs of the Front and socio-political organizations.
According to Mr. Tran Thang, it is necessary to further clarify the role, identity and specific functions of the press in the Front system. The press must not only report on the activities of the managing agency but must truly become a means of propaganda, mobilization, and gathering of the People.
The Front's press must go deep into the lives, thoughts, aspirations, rights and interests of union members, association members and people from all walks of life. Each press agency needs to clearly define: who is the target audience, what issues need to be concerned about, and how their information contributes to the implementation of the tasks of the Front and the managing agency," Vice Chairman Tran Thang suggested.
He also requested the press to strengthen policy analysis articles, reflect initiatives, effective models and issues arising from the grassroots level; information must come from the People and return to serving the People.
Do not let social networks dominate press activities
Vice Chairman Tran Thang emphasized that the press needs to proactively detect problems, not only reflect phenomena but also analyze the causes, impacts, responsibilities and solutions; and at the same time monitor the handling results to the end.
Supervision and social criticism must be grounded, responsible, objective and constructive; do not chase unverified information, do not let the psychology of the crowd on social networks dominate press activities," Mr. Tran Thang clearly stated.
For complex and sensitive issues, it is necessary to especially value the verification and editing process and the responsibility of the head of the press agency.
Along with that, press agencies need to continue to invest in digital platforms, develop multimedia content, data journalism, eMagazine, Longform, Podcasts, Infographics, Videos and research appropriate artificial intelligence applications. However, according to Vice Chairman Tran Thang, technology is just a means; the important thing is still accuracy, authenticity, orientation, social responsibility and professional ethics.
Vice Chairman Tran Thang also requested to enhance the responsibility of the managing agency in leading, directing, inspecting, and supervising the activities of affiliated press agencies; clearly define the responsibility of the managing agency and the head in ensuring press activities are in accordance with the principles, purposes, political orientations, compliance with the law and maintaining the social responsibility of the press.
