Old houses "change clothes", poor people have a place to settle down in Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh - Old and degraded houses are being "renovated", helping poor and disadvantaged households have more solid and safe housing.

Old houses "change clothes"

Excited to live in a new house, Ms. Tran Thi Phuong and her children (in Van Cat village, Vu Ban commune, Ninh Binh province) now have a more spacious and solid place to live. The new house was completed and put into use from May 2026, with full functions including a living room, bedroom, kitchen and toilet area.

Previously, the mother and daughter lived in a level 4 house built in 1987, which has now seriously deteriorated and is not safe, especially during the rainy and storm season.

Ms. Phuong shared: "After receiving local government support to build a great solidarity house, children and grandchildren in the family helped my mother and I build a new house. Because it was newly built, my house was supported by the local government with 100 million VND. Now, my mother and I have a more solid and safe place to live, and our daily life is also more convenient than before.

Also belonging to households in difficult circumstances in Vu Ban commune, Ms. Bui Thi Nhu suffers from congenital disabilities. About 5 years ago, her health gradually weakened, she could not walk on her own, and all daily activities had to rely on the support of her siblings and grandchildren in the family.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nhu's house has seriously deteriorated, the walls of the house have many cracks, the roof is leaking, and many items are termite-ridden.

Mr. Do Ngoc Thuy (Ms. Nhu's relative) said: "As soon as we received the information, the family made a dossier proposing support. To make the house more solid and spacious, the family decided to rebuild it and held a meeting, agreeing on a plan to mobilize more resources from children and grandchildren in the house to help".

Joining hands to build houses of great solidarity

With the motto "no one is left behind", in the past time, Vu Ban commune has always paid attention to caring for the poor and people in difficult circumstances through many meaningful and practical activities. In particular, the locality pays attention to social security work, regularly reviewing housing conditions of households in the area, especially households belonging to poor households, near-poor households and families in particularly difficult circumstances.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Vu Ban commune - said that from the first months of 2026, the Party Committee of Vu Ban commune has assigned the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune to review and survey the houses of poor households, near-poor households and households with particularly difficult housing circumstances.

The review results showed that the whole commune has 23 houses that need support, of which 16 houses need new construction support and 7 houses need repair support.

Accordingly, Vu Ban commune has effectively mobilized socialized resources from businesses and philanthropists, especially Vu Ban children living and working in all parts of the country. To date, the commune has started construction and repair of 23 great solidarity houses, of which 17 houses have been completed and put into use. In addition, some houses have been supported by families and clans with additional funds, built on a larger scale, so they are still in the process of completion.

Not only in Vu Ban commune, support for poor households and households in difficult housing circumstances is also being implemented in Hien Khanh commune. Based on reviewing and surveying the reality in the villages, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune has coordinated to select households with needs and sufficient conditions for support.

Up to now, the entire Hien Khanh commune has started construction of 3 new houses and repaired 9 houses for households in difficult circumstances.

In Giap Nhat village, after the repair works were completed, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune conducted acceptance and handed over support funds to the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan and the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, each household 30 million VND.
