On September 13, the Quang Tri Red Cross Society said that after 1 month of launching the program "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba" love, the total amount of money received from cadres, party members, people, businesses and units in Quang Tri has exceeded 9.1 billion VND. This is an outstanding result, reflecting the loyal and deep affection of the people of Quang Tri for the brotherly country of Cuba, which once stood shoulder to shoulder with Vietnam during the war years.
During the campaign, many touching stories were recorded.
For example, in Nam Gianh commune (Quang Tri province), ethnic minorities do not mind traveling far, directly coming to support, contributing to raising the total amount of money in the commune to more than 620 million VND.
This shows the great affection and sharing of the people of Quang Tri for the Cuban people in difficult times - Ms. Pham Thi Huong - Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Women's Union of Nam Gianh commune said.
Along with donation activities, Quang Tri also organizes many meaningful activities such as documentary film screenings, painting competitions, writing letters to Cuban children, and the " Small Plan - Fundraising for Cuba" movement in schools. These activities both spread the spirit of humanity and educated the younger generation about the tradition of international solidarity.
Quang Tri people will never forget September 16, 1973, when leader Fidel Castro defied bombs and bullets to visit the liberation area of Quang Tri to encourage the army and people of Quang Tri. That historical mark, along with the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital project, became an immortal symbol of the gilded friendship.
In 2018, Quang Tri province inaugurated Fidel Park in the old Dong Ha city, expressing gratitude to Cuban leaders and the strong friendship between the two peoples. The fact that the people of Quang Tri continue to pioneer in supporting the Cuban people this time once again affirms the tradition of affection, solidarity and sharing that has been cultivated for decades.
