On the morning of August 27, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a meeting with overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Attending the program, more than 50 overseas Vietnamese had the opportunity to visit the Ho Chi Minh City Museum and learn about the exhibition of cultural and artistic works with the theme "Vietnam in the eyes of overseas Vietnamese".
Delegates also interacted with researchers and historical speakers, listening to untold stories about the heroic milestones of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
The activity not only helps the overseas Vietnamese community review historical traditions, enhance national pride, but also contributes to strengthening the belief in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai - Deputy Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a super-urban - the economic, industrial and logistics center of Southeast Asia with the vision of "1 space - 3 regions".
The city also aims to become a livable place, through strong investment in healthcare, education, community health care and comprehensive development of the young generation.
To achieve this goal, Ho Chi Minh City needs to synchronously mobilize intellectual resources, finance and the cohesion of the overseas Vietnamese community.
Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai said that there are currently nearly 3 million overseas Vietnamese people related to Ho Chi Minh City, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of overseas Vietnamese worldwide. Of which, more than 2.2 million people are living in leading economic, scientific and technological centers. This is an important resource in the city's economic, knowledge and cultural development.
In particular, the amount of hoiines transferred to Ho Chi Minh City always accounts for 40 - 53% of the total amount of hoiines nationwide. In 2024, the city will receive about 10.3 billion USD, an increase of 140 million USD compared to 2023.
In the second quarter of 2025 alone, bribes reached nearly 2.82 billion USD, up 17% over the previous quarter. These figures clearly demonstrate the belief and attachment of overseas Vietnamese to their homeland.
To continue to promote the effectiveness of this resource, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing many solutions to perfect mechanisms and policies, creating favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to participate in investment, production and business in the city.
