On March 11, Mr. Ngo Thai Chan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City - said that the unit had just relocated the garbage transfer point in Thoi Nhut residential area (Tan An ward). This is one of the temporary garbage collection points in the inner city area that has been frequently complained about by people for generating odors, affecting the living environment.
Previously, another garbage transfer point in the area in front of the Can Tho Traditional Medicine Hospital campus (April 30th Street, Tan An Ward) was also relocated by functional sectors to reduce pollution and ensure urban aesthetics.
According to Mr. Chan, the amount of garbage collected from Thoi Nhut residential area after relocation is diverted for treatment: part is transported to the garbage transfer point in Long Tuyen ward, and the rest is taken directly to the waste treatment plant.
Currently, the department is coordinating with relevant departments and local authorities to develop a plan to relocate the remaining garbage transfer points in the inner city area as soon as possible, contributing to creating a clean and beautiful landscape for the city. This is also an effort to fulfill commitments to the people, although the implementation process faces many difficulties," Mr. Chan said.

Previously, in January 2026, at a press conference providing information to the press organized by the Can Tho City People's Committee, Mr. Chan said that currently, Can Tho City's domestic waste treatment capacity basically meets the requirements, and is even rated better than some localities in the area. The city currently has 2 waste incineration plants to generate electricity, ensuring treatment capacity.
However, according to him, the biggest bottleneck currently lies in the stage of collecting and transporting garbage. The reason stems from the fact that for many years, Can Tho city's planning has not arranged appropriate garbage transfer stations.
Through surveys, the city has planned to build a new garbage collection station in Long Tuyen ward. It is expected that this station will be completed in the first quarter of 2026, with a treatment capacity of about 100 tons/day. When Long Tuyen station comes into operation, Thoi Nhut 2 garbage transfer station will be relocated here.
