The meteorological agency warns of the risk of flash floods and landslides after heavy rain in some communes and wards of Lai Chau and Dien Bien.

Updated bulletin issued at 8:20 am on September 7 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 6 hours (from 2 am to 8 am on September 7), Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces have had moderate to heavy rain such as Bum Nua 58mm, Muong Mo 1 43.6mm (Lai Chau); Pa Tan 67.4mm, Ta Pin 1 55.4mm (Dien Bien);...

The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces are almost saturated (over 85%).

Warning in the next 6 hours, the areas of Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces will continue to have rain with accumulated rainfall commonly from 20 - 30mm, in some places over 60mm.

The risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes in the above provinces, especially in communes/wards, is as follows:

Lai Chau: Bum Nua, Hua Bum, Muong Mo, Nam Hang.

Dien Bien: Cha To, Muong Cha, Nam Ke, Quang Lam, Sinh Phinh.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, subsidence due to rain, floods or currents is level 1.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; civil and economic works causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that functional agencies in localities pay attention to reviewing flow bottlenecks and key locations in the area to have preventive and response measures.
