Warning of rain in 5 provinces, risk of bad weather in the next 6 hours

The meteorological agency warns of the risk of flash floods and landslides after heavy rain in some communes and wards of Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.

Updated bulletin issued at 2:30 PM on August 25 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 2:00 PM on August 24 to 2:00 PM on August 25), the area of Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces had moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places such as Sam Mun 1 monitoring station at 97mm (Dien Bien); Muong Leo 85mm (Son La); Xuan Binh 54mm (Thanh Hoa); Salt Waterfall 124mm (Nghe An); Son Lam 109mm, Huong Dien 109mm (Ha Tinh);...

The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces have been near saturation (over 85%) or reached saturation status.

Warning in the next 6 hours, the areas of Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces will continue to have rain with common accumulated rainfall as follows: Dien Bien, Son La from 10 - 20mm, in some places over 30mm; Thanh Hoa from 5 - 10mm, in some places over 30mm; Nghe An, Ha Tinh from 5 - 10mm, in some places over 20mm.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, subsidence due to rain, floods or currents is level 1.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; civil and economic works causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that functional agencies in localities pay attention to reviewing flow bottlenecks and key locations in the area to have preventive and response measures.
