Warning of heavy rain in 5 provinces, dangerous weather risk in the next 6 hours

The meteorological agency warns of the risk of flash floods and landslides after heavy rain in some communes and wards of Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

According to the bulletin issued at 11:30 am on August 8 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 11:00 am on August 7 to 11:00 am on August 8), the area of Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces had moderate to heavy rain such as Lien Hoa monitoring station 70.2mm (Phu Tho); An Phu 42.8mm (Lao Cai); Hung My 68.2mm (Tuyen Quang); Chau Thang 95.6mm (Nghe An);...

The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces have been near saturation (over 85%) or reached saturation status.

Warning in the next 6 hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with accumulated rainfall commonly in Phu Tho, Lao Cai and Tuyen Quang from 10 - 20mm, in some places over 40mm; in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An from 5 - 10mm, in some places over 20mm.

The meteorological agency especially warned that recently, the above provinces have continuously had prolonged heavy rain, soil and rocks have been saturated, so there is a high risk of landslides even when it is not raining.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes in many communes/wards.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, subsidence due to rain, floods or currents is level 1.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; civil and economic works causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that functional agencies in localities pay attention to reviewing flow bottlenecks and key locations in the area to have preventive and response measures.
