Forecast for the day and night of July 14, the Central Highlands and Southern regions will have showers and scattered thunderstorms with rainfall of 15 - 35mm, locally heavy rain over 80mm. Rain will mainly concentrate in the late afternoon and evening.
Ms. Nhu Quynh warned that when thunderstorms occur, they will easily be accompanied by extreme dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain is likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
In addition, attention should be paid to the activity of strong southwest monsoons, in the southern sea areas from Lam Dong to Ca Mau, Ca Mau - An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand and the western part of the South China Sea (including the western sea area of Truong Sa Special Zone) there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. Regarding the rainfall trend in the next 1 month, the total rainfall in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa is generally approximately equal to the multi-year average, in some places 10 - 20% higher than the multi-year average of the same period. Other areas have a commonly lower total rainfall of 10 - 30% compared to the multi-year average of the same period.
In the period from now until early August, widespread heavy rain will mainly concentrate in the Northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh. The Central Highlands and Southern regions will experience showers and thunderstorms for many days, with rain and heavy rain during the day; the rain time will be concentrated in the afternoon and night.
Dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind are likely to occur nationwide.
