On March 28, local functional forces coordinated with militia to continue deploying measures to control the garbage dump fire at Da Mai slope; at the same time, preventing the risk of fire spreading to residential areas and adjacent gardens.

Previously, in the afternoon of March 27, people discovered a fire breaking out at the Da Mai slope landfill, so they quickly reported it to the authorities.
However, due to hot weather and strong winds, the fire quickly spread, covering the entire landfill area of more than 2ha.

At the scene, the fire was fierce, dense black smoke accompanied by many loud explosions. The fire directly affected dozens of households in Quang Ngai, Tu Nghia and hamlet 14 (Cat Tien commune).
People said that smoke and dust and stench lasted for many hours, causing stuffiness and seriously affecting daily life.
The strong smell of smoke and garbage from yesterday makes us very uncomfortable, unable to live normally" - Mr. Hoa, a local resident, reflected.
According to initial assessments by functional agencies, the cause may be due to hot weather causing mini gas cylinders to explode mixed in with garbage. Although functional forces are actively extinguishing the fire, the fire still shows signs of spreading.

Mr. Ho Quoc Phong - Secretary of the Party Committee of Cat Tien commune - said that immediately after the fire occurred, the locality mobilized many forces including police, militia, forest rangers, fire prevention and fighting, and landfill management units to implement fire fighting measures.
Although we have made great efforts, due to hot weather and strong winds, the fire has not yet been controlled. The locality has conducted surveys and prepared plans to support and relocate households at risk of being directly affected," Mr. Phong said.
Da Mai slope landfill has been operating since 2001, receiving about 30 tons of waste every day.
This area has long been polluted, and this fire has further affected the environment and people's lives.
