The longest canal improvement project in Ho Chi Minh City has 25 ground

The project to renovate Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach water canal, the longest canal in Ho Chi Minh City is facing difficulties when 25 ground has not been handed over or re -encroached.

On 9.2, the Management Board of the Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project in Ho Chi Minh City (Investor) said that after one year of construction, the project to renovate Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach water canal has reached nearly 50% workload.

However, the progress is being hindered by 25 cases that have not been handed over or re -encroachment.

Of these, Binh Tan district has 23 cases, Binh Thanh and Binh Chanh district - each district 1 case.

In order to solve the problem, the Management Board of the urban infrastructure construction project in Ho Chi Minh City proposes the People's Committee of the districts to relevant the district and district to soon make a plan to recover the ground and hand over to the contractor in February 2025.

Particularly, Binh Tan District has some households who have not received compensation money, proposed to continue mobilizing people to receive money and hand over the land to the project in February 2025.

Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach water canal has a length of nearly 32 km, flowing through 7 districts including: District 12, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Tan Binh, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Binh Chanh.

The project was started in February 2023, with the main items including: building concrete embankments on both sides of the canal; dredging canals, improving drainage capacity; building a parallel road 7-12 m wide on both sides of the canal; Installation of drainage, lighting and trees; Building 19 sewers, 12 boats and 3 bridges connected.

Initially, the total project investment was VND 8,200 billion, then adjusted to more than VND 9,000 billion.

As planned, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, instead of April 2024 as the previous plan.

When put into exploitation, this canal will help drain water for about 15,000 hectares of surrounding areas, reduce flooding, and improve traffic thanks to two parallel routes along the canal, contributing to reducing pressure on the highway. 1.

In addition, the project also promotes water transport, connected to Ho Chi Minh City with Long An across Cho Chau River and with Binh Duong and Dong Nai across the Saigon River.
