The meteorological agency has warned of the risk of flash floods and landslides due to continued heavy rain in Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Son La provinces.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, August 2, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Son La regions will have scattered showers and thunderstorms.

In the evening and night of August 2, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Son La will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10 - 30mm, locally over 60mm.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas. Warning level 1 risk of natural disasters due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail.

Flash floods and landslides can have serious impacts on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; civil works and economic infrastructure, causing damage to production activities and social life.

The meteorological agency recommends that localities proactively review flow bottlenecks and vulnerable areas to take timely preventive and response measures.
