Since the beginning of 2024, 8 storms have been recorded in the East Sea. Of these, storm No. 3 Yagi is the strongest storm to hit the East Sea in the past 30 years. Although storm No. 5 Krathon did not affect Vietnam's mainland, it continues to be the second storm to reach super typhoon level in the East Sea in 2024.
According to Mr. Vu Anh Tuan - Deputy Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the development of storms and tropical depressions at the end of the year is much more complicated than at the beginning of the storm season.
"At the end of the year, atmospheric conditions are weak and the impact on storms is unclear. Therefore, the storm path is unstable and the trajectory is more difficult to predict. The risk of strong storms appearing cannot be ruled out; however, strong storms like storm No. 3 Yagi are unlikely," said Mr. Tuan.
The Deputy Head of the Weather Forecast Department added that according to climate laws as well as updated data, storms often make landfall in the Central and Southern provinces in November and December.
"However, the southern region of the South is less likely to be directly affected by storms/tropical depressions," said Mr. Tuan.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that from November 2024 to January 2025, storm/tropical depression activity in the East Sea and affecting the mainland of our country is likely to be at a level approximately equal to or higher than the average of many years.
According to the average data of many years during the forecast period, there are 2.8 storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea, about 1.1 storms make landfall.
