According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and this morning (April 17), the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region had showers and thunderstorms, locally with moderate to heavy rain. Rainfall calculated from 11 pm on April 16 to 8 am on April 17 in some places over 50mm such as the following monitoring stations: Tien Bo station (Tuyen Quang) 85.2mm, Hoa Thuong (Thai Nguyen) 77.4mm, Van Lang (Phu Tho) 70mm,...
Mr. Vu Tuan Anh, Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that the weather forecast in the North will change on April 17.

Through analyzing the data, in the north, there is a low pressure trough with its axis at about 24 - 26 degrees north latitude compressed by a cold air mass in the north.
On April 17, this low pressure trough will continue to be compressed and gradually move down to the Northern region combined with wind convergence above 1500 meters, causing almost all provinces and cities in the Northern region, especially the Northeast region, to experience showers and thunderstorms, and even localized heavy rain in some places" - Mr. Tuan Anh said.
According to a representative of the Weather Forecasting Department, the most noteworthy thing is the high risk of extreme weather phenomena accompanying thunderstorms such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, and the consequence is that it can affect agricultural production, causing trees to fall, damage to houses, traffic works, and infrastructure.
The temperature on April 17th in most of the Northern region will decrease to about 27 - 30 degrees Celsius, especially some mountainous areas in the Northeast region may have temperatures below 26 degrees Celsius. With such temperatures, the atmosphere in the Northern region in general will become much cooler than yesterday, April 16th" - Mr. Tuan Anh provided information.
Mr. Vu Tuan Anh analyzed that not only in the Northern region but also in the North Central region, it is also necessary to note that in the afternoon and evening of April 17, there is also a high possibility of thunderstorms and accompanied by the risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
The temperature on April 17 in the North Central region is commonly around 29 - 32 degrees Celsius.
For the area from Quang Tri inwards to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai province on April 17, the heat will also subside, generally only about 35 - 36 degrees Celsius.
Down to the south, the weather in the next 24 hours will not have much fluctuation, commonly still sunny during the day, localized hot sun with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, showers and thunderstorms in some places in the late afternoon. Especially in the Central Highlands area, showers and thunderstorms will continue to appear in the late afternoon of April 17" - Mr. Tuan Anh recommended.
Regarding the weather at sea, in most sea areas, winds operate with weak to moderate intensity, which is quite favorable for maritime transport and seafood exploitation activities of fishermen. Especially for the northern Gulf of Tonkin area, in the next 24 hours, there is a tendency to have thunderstorms, so visibility is limited and there is a risk of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
