The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a weather trend forecast for the next month (from February 21 to March 20).
The average temperature across the country is generally at a level close to the average of many years, especially in the Northeast and North Central regions, 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius lower than the average of many years in the same period.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Deputy Head of the Climate Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting - said that from February 21 to March 20, the cold air tends to be more active than the average of many years.
"However, because the center of the continental cold high pressure tends to shift to the east, the cold air in the coming period may cause many days of light rain, drizzle and fog" - Mr. Hoa analyzed.
Light rain, drizzle and fog, especially in the Northeastern and North Central provinces, will affect people's activities as well as people's transportation.
Previously, in the period from January 21 to February 20, there were 4 cold air waves on the following days: January 26, February 1, February 7 and February 16. In particular, the cold air on February 7 caused a widespread cold spell in the Northern region.
The lowest temperature in this severe cold spell in the North and North Central regions is generally from 11 - 14 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas below 7 degrees Celsius such as: Sa Pa (Lao Cai) 5 degrees Celsius, Dong Van (Ha Giang) 6.2 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 6.1 degrees Celsius, Sin Ho (Lai Chau) 6.4 degrees Celsius, Mau Son (Lang Son) 3.5 degrees Celsius...
Total rainfall in the Northeast and Central regions is generally 10 - 30mm higher, in some places over 30mm higher than the average of many years. The remaining areas will have 5 - 15mm more rainfall than the average of many years in the same period.
"During the forecast period, the Central and Southern regions are likely to experience some scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places" - Mr. Hoa said.
Regarding dangerous weather phenomena at sea, during the forecast period, the equatorial low pressure band tends to be active, lifting its axis to the north and is likely to affect the southern provinces in the last days of February 2025.
Cold air is likely to cause strong winds and large waves affecting the activities of ships.
Previously, during the period from January 21 to February 20, a tropical depression appeared in the East Sea on February 12.
