According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this morning (August 22), the low pressure area in the area east of Luzon Island (Philippines) has strengthened into a tropical depression.
At 7:00 a.m. on August 22, the center of the tropical depression was at about 16.7 degrees north latitude; 121.5 degrees east longitude. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 6 (39 - 49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving northwest at a speed of 10 - 15 km/h.
It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move west-northwest at a speed of about 15 km/h and continue to strengthen. At 7:00 a.m. on August 23, the center was at about 18 degrees north latitude; 118.2 degrees east longitude, in the eastern sea of the northern East Sea, about 730 km east-northeast of the Hoang Sa special zone.
Strong wind level 7, gust level 9. The danger zone is from 16 to 20 degrees north latitude; east 116.5 degrees east longitude. The natural disaster risk level is level 3 with the affected area being the northeast of the East Sea.
It is forecasted that in the next 48 hours, the tropical depression will move westward at a speed of 15 - 20 km/h, likely to strengthen into a storm. At 7:00 a.m. on August 24, the center of the storm was at about 18.1 degrees north latitude; 114.4 degrees east longitude, in the northern East Sea, about 290 km northeast of the Hoang Sa special zone. The strongest wind near the storm center is level 8, gusting to level 11.
The danger zone is from 16 to 20 degrees north latitude; east of 112 degrees east longitude. The natural disaster risk level is level 3 with the affected area being the northern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa special zone).
It is forecasted that in the next 48 to 72 hours, the storm will move mainly westward, traveling about 20 km/h and is likely to strengthen.
After the tropical depression strengthened into a storm, it is forecast to affect the eastern sea of the northern East Sea area, causing showers and thunderstorms, strong winds of level 6-7, then increasing to level 8, gusting to level 10. Waves are 3 - 5 m high, very rough seas.
