The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a noteworthy weather trend forecast for March. Accordingly, the nature of cold air in this period will change, causing some noteworthy weather changes.
Regarding the temperature trend, nationwide, the average temperature is generally approximately equal to the average of many years in the same period.
Cold air continues to be active and tends to shift eastward. The phenomenon of severe cold - harmful cold occurs mainly in the first half of March 2026, mainly in the Northern mountainous region.
Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting - said that the phenomenon of light rain, drizzle with fog continues to occur in the northeastern and North Central provinces in March, in accordance with the annual law.
Previously, in February, there were 3 cold spells on February 1st, February 8th, and February 18th; including 1 spell causing severe cold. The number of severe cold spells in this winter is considered to be less than the average of many years.
The Deputy Director of the meteorological agency assessed that this winter is relatively warm.
Strong cold air waves cause severe cold, frost, and frost relatively little. The average temperature of winter is generally about 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius higher than the multi-year average. Cold air waves from now until the end of the season are likely to occur with less frequency than the average and less intensity" - Mr. Lam further analyzed.
Regarding hot weather, in March, it is likely to continue to occur in the Southeast region, and from the end of the month, it is likely to expand to the Southwest region.
Faced with such weather trends, the meteorological agency continues to recommend that cold air is likely to cause strong winds and large waves, affecting the operation of ships and boats.
On land, easterly and perverted cold air can cause many days of light rain, drizzle and fog, especially in the northeastern and North Central provinces, affecting people's livelihoods as well as traffic.
In the South, the phenomenon of hot weather may affect people's lives and production.
The total rainfall in March in the North, Thanh Hoa to Hue and the South Central Coast is forecast to be generally higher than the multi-year average of the same period from 10 - 30 mm, with some places higher than 30 mm. Especially the Central Highlands and Southern regions have a common total rainfall at a threshold close to the multi-year average of the same period.
During the forecast period, in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa - Quang Ngai and eastern Gia Lai - Dak Lak, there is a possibility of some widespread rains. The Central Highlands and Southern regions may experience some days of unseasonal rain.
Dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind are likely to appear locally.
Regarding sea weather, in March, it is forecast that storms/tropical depressions are unlikely to appear in the East Sea area. According to multi-year averages, there are 0.2 storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea in March and they will not make landfall in Vietnam.
In the context of climate change, weather, and climate are increasingly complicated with many dangerous and extreme forms. Therefore, it is proposed that all levels of government and people regularly update and integrate weather and hydrological forecasting and warning information in 1-3-day short-term bulletins to promptly adjust production plans and appropriate response plans, ensuring safety for production and people's livelihoods.
