Forecast for the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move in a Northwest direction; it is expected to enter the mainland from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri on the evening and night of September 13.

Tropical depression enters mainland in the next 24 hours

Latest update from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7:00 PM on September 12, the center of the tropical depression was located at about 16.4 degrees North latitude - 109.8 degrees East longitude, over the sea area of Quang Tri - Da Nang; about 160km east-northeast of Da Nang, about 200km east-southeast of Hue. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is strong at level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting at level 8.

Forecast for the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move in a West-Northwest direction, at a speed of about 10 km/h.

By 7:00 PM on September 13th, the center of the tropical depression will be located at approximately 17.4 degrees North latitude - 107.5 degrees East longitude; over the sea area of Quang Tri - Hue, 60km east of Quang Tri, about 110km north of Hue. Wind intensity is strong at level 6, gusting at level 8.

From evening to night on September 13th, the tropical depression is likely to enter the mainland from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri.

Forecast for the next 48 hours, the tropical depression will move in a West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 10 km/h and gradually weaken into a low pressure area.

By 7:00 PM on September 14th, the center of the low pressure area will be located at about 18 degrees North latitude - 105.2 degrees East longitude; over the Central Laos region. Wind intensity will decrease to below level 6.

Heavy rain area gradually moves to the North

Inland coastal areas, coastal areas from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri from the evening of September 13th, winds will gradually strengthen to level 6, gusting to level 8. Strong winds can blow off roofs, damage temporary structures, break down green trees, billboards; affecting electricity, communication and transportation systems.

Regarding heavy rain, the affected areas are the midlands and delta of the Northern region, the south of Son La and Phu Tho provinces; the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang.

From the evening of September 12 to September 13, the area from Ha Tinh to the north of Quang Tri province will have heavy rain of 50-100mm, in some places over 180mm; the south of Quang Tri province to Da Nang will have heavy to very heavy rain of 100-200mm, locally over 350mm.

From the night of September 13 to September 14, the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri will have heavy to very heavy rain of 100-200mm, with some places over 350mm.

The midland and delta areas of the Northern region, the south of Son La and Phu Tho provinces; Hue and Da Nang have moderate rain, heavy rain 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.

From the night of September 14-15, the midland and delta areas of the Northern region, the south of Son La, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai provinces and the area from Thanh Hoa to the north of Nghe An and Quang Tri province will have moderate rain, heavy rain 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.

The area from South Nghe An to Ha Tinh has heavy to very heavy rain of 70-150mm, locally over 200mm.

The heavy rain in these areas is likely to last until the morning of September 16.

Heavy rain may cause flooding in urban areas, industrial parks and low-lying areas; increasing the risk of floods on small rivers and streams, flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.

Due to the influence of the circulation of the tropical depression, it is necessary to prevent the risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

At sea, the sea area west of the Hoang Sa special zone, the sea area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang (including Con Co special zone) has strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8, sea waves are 2-4m high; rough seas. Dangerous weather conditions can cause capsizing, sinking or damage to fishing boats, transport ships, tourist boats and vehicles operating at sea; aquaculture cages, boat anchorage areas and coastal works are at risk of being damaged. Seafood exploitation, transportation and tourism activities at sea are likely to be interrupted.
