According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (August 22), the Northeast region and Thanh Hoa will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with locally very heavy rain. Heavy rain in the North will continue

The Northeast region, the south of Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa provinces from the evening of August 22nd to the end of August 24th, will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 60 - 120mm, locally very heavy rain over 200mm.

Especially the Quang Ninh and Hai Phong areas have very heavy rain with common rainfall from 150 - 250mm, locally over 400mm.

Lang Son and Bac Ninh areas have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 100 - 200mm, locally over 300mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain with rainfall greater than 120mm within 3 hours.

On the night of August 24 and August 25, the Northeast region, the south of Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa provinces will have moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall of 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 150mm. The rain situation in the North is still likely to last.

The Northwest region in the evening and night of August 22nd, will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 15 - 30mm, locally heavy rain over 60mm.

Flood warnings downstream of Luc Nam and Thuong rivers

Regarding the hydrological situation, floods downstream of the Luc Nam and Thuong rivers (Bac Ninh) tend to increase. Water level at 1:00 PM on August 22nd, 2026 on the Luc Nam River at Luc Nam station is 4.96m, 0.34m below alarm level 2; on the Thuong River at Phu Lang Thuong station is 3.99m, 0.31m below alarm level 1.

In the next 6-12 hours, the downstream flood of the Luc Nam River will continue to rise and be at alarm level 2-alarm level 3.

In the next 12-24 hours, the downstream flood of the Luc Nam River will fluctuate below alarm level 3.

In the next 24 hours, the downstream flood of the Thuong River will continue to rise and fluctuate at alarm level 2.

From now (August 22nd) to August 25th, floods on rivers in the Northeast region are likely to remain at a high level, with flood peaks in the upper reaches of the Thuong River, Luc Nam River, Trung River (Lang Son), Bang Giang River (Cao Bang), and upper reaches of the Cau River (Thai Nguyen) reaching alarm level 2-alarm level 3, with some rivers above alarm level 3.

High risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides on slopes in Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Cao Bang, and Thai Nguyen provinces.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to floods is level 1-2. Floods on rivers cause flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, affecting activities such as waterway traffic, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's livelihoods and socio-economic activities.
