From the evening and night of May 23 to the night of May 24, the North Central region will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 40 - 100mm, locally over 150mm.
In particular, the Meteorological Agency specially noted the largest rainy area that likes to appear in the southern parts of Son La province, Hoa Binh province, Ha Giang province, Tuyen Quang province, Bac Kan province, Thai Nguyen province, Bac Giang province, Cao Bang, Lang Son province, Quang Ninh province, Hai Phong city, ... in the North.

According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Department of Hydro-Meteorology, it is noteworthy that there is a risk of high-intensity rain in a short period of time. This has also happened regularly in recent years.
During this rain, heavy rain in 1 to 3 hours can reach 100mm, or more than 100mm, which will greatly affect the risk of flash floods and landslides.
Heavy rain can also cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, and industrial parks.
"Sweep floods and landslides are a constant risk. We will continuously warn in the coming days, especially in the northern provinces that have just experienced a heavy rain, so in mountainous areas such as Bac Kan, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, ... the soil and rocks have saturated water, so the risk of landslides is still high. People need to be on guard against landslides to avoid causing damage to people and property" - Mr. Khiem advised.
Thunderstorms, lightning, strong gusts of wind accompanied by hail are at risk of breaking trees, electric poles, blowing off roofs; lightning strikes, causing fire or death.
According to the meteorological agency, the rainy season in the North in the coming time is expected to last from June to September. Of which, heavy rain will be concentrated from July to September. During this period, the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas is very high.
Regarding the total rainfall in the North from June to October, it tends to be approximately the same as the average of many years. In November, total rainfall in the North tends to be lower than the average of many years.
