The National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of northern mountainous provinces on proactively responding to heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, and hail.
The official dispatch clearly stated that in recent days, heavy rain, floods, inundation, and landslides have occurred in some northern mountainous provinces, causing damage to agricultural production and infrastructure.
According to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of June 28 to the morning of June 30, the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region are likely to experience a period of moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall from 50-120mm, locally very heavy rain over 250mm, with the risk of heavy rain intensity (>100mm/3h).
Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides on slopes.
To proactively respond to heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, and hail, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense proposes that the People's Committees of northern mountainous provinces: Closely monitor warning bulletins and forecasts of heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, hail; promptly inform local authorities and people to proactively take appropriate preventive measures; mobilize shock forces to review and clear flow in blocked areas; proactively evacuate people in areas at high risk of deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides to safe places; be ready with local forces to promptly support people in overcoming consequences (if any).
Strengthen information and communication work, especially grassroots information lines to update information, propagate, and disseminate skills to respond to heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, tornadoes, lightning, and hail so that people know, proactively prevent, avoid, and minimize damage.
Be on duty seriously, regularly report to the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense (through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment).
9 provinces receiving official dispatches include: Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Phu Tho.
