According to data from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (October 16), the Central Highlands and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain.

In the South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions from the evening of October 16 to October 17, there is forecast to be rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall from 20 - 40mm, locally over 80mm. Rain will be concentrated in the afternoon and evening. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (rainfall greater than 80mm within 6 hours).
The Meteorological Agency warns that thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains may cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams; and landslides on steep slopes.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also said that currently, the water level on the eastern coast of the South is showing an upward trend following high tides. The highest water level observed at Vung Tau station was 404cm (at 00:15) on October 16, 2024.
From the evening of October 16 to October 17, the coastal areas from Vung Tau to Ca Mau will have water levels of about 410 - 415cm. The time of occurrence is from 0:00 - 4:00 and 12:00 - 16:00. Low-lying areas and areas outside the dike are at risk of flooding due to high tides.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that from the second half of October 2024 to January 2025, there will be 7 high tides in the Southeast coastal area. Phase 1 from October 17 to 21, 2024; Phase 2 from November 2 to 5, 2024; Phase 3 from November 15 to 19, 2024; Phase 4 from December 1 to 6, 2024; Phase 5 from December 13 to 17, 2024; Phase 6 from December 29, 2024 to January 4, 2025 and Phase 7 from January 13 to 16, 2025.
The maximum water level at Vung Tau station during this period may reach 4.3m between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on November 17, 2024. Low-lying areas, riverside areas and areas outside the dyke system in the coastal area of the Southeast region are likely to be flooded.
