Hanoi is ready to respond to heavy rain
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (September 10), Hanoi weather is cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain. Light wind, from noon and afternoon turns northeast level 2-3. In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. The weather turns cool.
Notably, through monitoring satellite cloud images, lightning positioning data and weather radar images, the meteorological agency said that convective clouds are active and continue to develop in some areas of Hanoi.
The convective cloud area tends to develop and expand further in the coming hours, causing showers and thunderstorms in some wards and communes. People are warned to prevent tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms.
Faced with complicated weather diễn biến, the risk of localized heavy rain and flooding in some areas, Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company is proactively deploying response plans.
Lower the buffer water level, prepare flood prevention pumps
According to Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company, the weather in 2026 continues to be complicated under the impact of climate change. Temperatures tend to increase, the air is more humid, increasing the possibility of localized heavy rain, thunderstorms and unseasonal rain.
In the rainy season, extreme rains are likely to appear in a short period of time, putting great pressure on the drainage system in major cities.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Bui Ngoc Uyen - Deputy Head of the System, Environment and Digital Transformation Department, Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company - said that disaster and heavy rain response work is regularly maintained by the unit throughout the rainy and storm season.

Before the rain occurs, the unit focuses on lowering the buffer water level on the entire drainage system. Drainage gates are proactively opened, pumping stations and regulating lakes are operated to increase drainage capacity. River, canal, and ditch systems are also exploited to create more water reception and drainage capacity.

Along with that, workers inspect, dredge, and clean water inlets on the streets. This is to limit the situation of garbage and mud obstructing the flow, and at the same time increase the ability to collect surface water when it rains heavily.
Activating the on-duty plan at key points
Answering about response plans for flooding in some areas that are frequently at risk of heavy rain, including Duong Dinh Nghe - Nam Trung Yen, Hoa Bang (lane 99), Phan Van Truong streets; My Dinh - Thien Hien intersection, Le Duc Tho street, My Dinh stadium area and Tran Binh street... according to Mr. Uyen, when receiving weather warnings or when heavy rain appears, Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company immediately activates the on-duty plan.
Officials and workers, along with pumps and specialized vehicles, are arranged to key areas at high risk of flooding.

At the scene, the drainage force based on the actual situation to flexibly operate solutions. Fake vents are opened, forced pumps are deployed to increase drainage capacity, limit flooding time and depth," Mr. Uyen said and added that after the rain stopped, remediation work continued to be deployed.
Workers will review the drainage system, check the streets and treat mud and garbage overflowing onto the road surface. The goal is to quickly restore traffic, environmental sanitation and ensure safety for people.
According to a representative of Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company, proactive preparation from before the rain occurs is important in reducing pressure on the drainage system, especially when heavy rains with high intensity appear in a short time.
On August 17, 2026, Standing Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 4244/UBND-ĐT on proactively taking measures to ensure drainage and prevent flooding due to heavy rain in the area.
The City People's Committee requests departments, agencies, branches, People's Committees of communes, wards and related units to proactively implement Decision No. 2280/QD-UBND on approving the Plan to ensure drainage and prevent flooding in the inner city area during the 2026 rainy season.
Units are required to promptly handle incidents and flooding points, minimize the time and level of flooding; and at the same time inspect and handle acts that obstruct drainage.
