On January 15, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Tri province confirmed that it had just established a team to inspect the implementation of works and environmental protection measures at pig farms in Vinh Truong commune and to monitor and evaluate water quality in Rao Truong stream (Vinh Ha commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province).
The inspection team consists of leaders of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Inspectorate, the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring, and representatives from Vinh Linh district and Vinh Ha commune.
The delegation will inspect two pig farms in Vinh Ha commune, owned by Ms. Pham Thi Thong and Mr. Pham Ngoc Loi, in several batches, from January 16 to March 31, 2025.
According to the leader of the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the delegation will inspect the actual operation of waste treatment works, environmental protection measures, and environmental management work according to approved environmental records. Organize sampling and analysis of wastewater quality at farms. Survey, monitor and evaluate water quality in the Rao Truong stream area (Vinh Ha commune) at different locations from upstream to downstream.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article “Uneasy about the smelly black water flowing from the pig farm”, reporting that the water in Rao Truong stream in Vinh Ha commune had changed color, had a foul smell and the fish in the stream were dying.
When people went upstream, they discovered black water flowing from two pig farms into the stream. These two pig farms had discharged waste into the environment, and in some cases were punished by authorities.
The discharge into the environment not only affects the water source in Rao Truong stream but also pollutes the well water of people near the farm.
