Updated the latest news released at 15.15 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, through monitoring on satellite images, thunderstorm location data and weather radar, convective clouds were detected developing in the Thach That, Quoc Oai, and Chuong My areas of Hanoi city and tending to move into the inner city.
In the next 1 - 4 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, expand and cause rain in the above areas; then expand to other districts of Hanoi city. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
The meteorological agency warns of the risk of natural disasters due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail at level 1.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting added that from the evening of May 17 to the night of May 18, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain. Heavy rain will be concentrated in the late afternoon and night.
In the mountainous and midland areas of the North, rainfall will generally be from 40 - 90mm, in some places over 150mm.
Son La, Hoa Binh, Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa areas will have common rainfall of 30 - 60mm, some places over 80mm.
Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (rainfall greater than 80mm within 3 hours).
Nghe An area will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and night of May 17, locally heavy rain with rainfall in some places over 50mm.
