On December 8, Thai media said that tensions increased after the clash between Thailand and Cambodia on December 7, in the Phu Pha Lek - Phlan Hin Paet Kon area in Si Sa Ket province (Thailand).
The incident led to the evacuation of people in four provinces under the charge of the Military Region 2 Command - buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani. People were taken to evacuation centers according to the contingency plan, in the context of concerns that the situation could worsen and spread.
Two Thai soldiers were injured after the clash on the evening of December 7 (local time). The combat center of Military Region 2 said that their wounds showed the possibility of being fired.
At 8:00 p.m. on December 7, Cambodian forces were said to have opened fire on soldiers of the 13th Infantry Regiment in the Phu Pha Lek area ( Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket) and Chong Bok area (Ubon Ratchathani province), with about 10 shots fired. There were no casualties in Thailand.
At 10:49 p.m. on December 7, the Facebook page of Military Region 2 reported that in the Chong Khana and Chong Raye areas (Surin province), Cambodia's T-55 tanks were dispatched to the Krong Samraong area, Oddar Meanchey province, along with the evacuation of more Cambodian civilians from the border area.
At 11pm the same day, the Military Region 2 Combat Center synthesized the situation and said that Cambodian forces appeared to have raised their combat readiness to the highest level after the clash in Phlan Hin Paet Kon.

The authorities called on people to follow the official information and stay calm. Military Region 2 emphasized that the task of protecting the border is being carried out carefully and determinedly, with the goal of maintaining national peace and security.
For its part, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense accused Thailand of firing first, saying that this was a clear violation of the "Cambodian-Thailand Peace Agreement" signed on October 26, 2025.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, demanded that "Thailand must take full responsibility for the violations" and "immediately end all hostile actions".
Ms. Socheata also called on Thailand to respect the ceasefire agreement, the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement and all obligations under international law in a strict and honest manner.
