Over the past week, the North has maintained a dry cold pattern. It is only cold at night and in the morning, the days are sunny and dry, causing temperatures to rise rapidly. The highest temperature in the North is commonly 23 - 25 degrees Celsius.
However, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather is about to change due to the impact of a cold air mass.
From January 8 to 10, due to the impact of cold air, the Northern region will have rain in some places. It will be cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. In particular, the midlands and northern mountainous areas will have scattered rain on the night of January 8 to 9.
Forecasting the temperature trend in January, the meteorological agency said the average temperature nationwide is approximately the same as the average of many years in the same period.
In January 2025, cold air tends to be more active than in December 2024. There is a high possibility that strong northeast monsoon will cause many days of severe cold in the northern provinces of Vietnam, concentrated in the period of mid-January 2025.
Severe cold, with the risk of frost and ice, has a major impact on livestock, crops and people's health, especially in the northern mountainous areas.
Previously, in December 2024, there were 3 cold spells on December 6, December 11 and December 27. Notably, the cold spell on December 11 caused widespread cold weather in the Northern region on December 14-15 and from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh provinces on December 15; especially in the mountainous areas of the North, the weather was extremely cold.
The lowest temperature in the above cold air mass in the North and North Central regions is generally from 11 - 14 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas it is below 7 degrees Celsius such as Sapa (Lao Cai) 6 degrees Celsius, Dong Van (Ha Giang) 5.2 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 6.2 degrees Celsius, Trung Khanh (Cao Bang) 5.6 degrees Celsius, Mau Son (Lang Son) 3.2 degrees Celsius...
