From last night, June 20, until now, many localities, especially the midlands and northern mountainous areas, have had heavy to very heavy rain.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh, Deputy Head of the Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, made comments on the risk of floods.

Accordingly, in the past 24 hours, the cause of heavy rain was the influence of a compressed low pressure trough combined with a high-altitude wind convergence.
"In Thai Nguyen, in the past 24 hours, there have been monitoring stations that have recorded more than 300mm of rain. Due to the impact of heavy rain in the basin, there is a very high risk of flooding in low-lying areas, along rivers and urban areas. Currently, in Thai Nguyen, there are many deeply flooded areas that greatly affect socio-economic activities" - Ms. Nhu Quynh said.
The Deputy Head of the Hydrological Forecasting Department said that the upstream flood of the Cau River is rising rapidly, on the main rivers in the Red River - Thai Binh River system, there are fluctuations and are below alert level 1.
From tonight (June 21) to June 22, in the upper reaches of Thao River, Lo River, downstream of Cau River, and small rivers in the Northern region, there is a possibility of a flood, with a flood amplitude of 2 - 5m on the rivers. Flood peaks on small rivers are likely to reach alert level 1 - alert level 2, the water level downstream of Thao River, Lo River, and Cau River is likely to be at alert level 1 to above alert level 1.
There is a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, flash floods and landslides on steep slopes in the mountainous areas of the North. Floods on rivers cause flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, affecting activities such as waterway transportation, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's lives and socio-economic activities.
"Due to the complicated developments of the flood situation, we also recommend that people in flood-affected areas continuously monitor forecast information as well as instructions from local authorities to be able to proactively take precautions" - Ms. Nhu Quynh advised.
