On November 3, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) of Hoa Binh province announced that the unit has just reported the results of the inspection, verification and clarification of the content of Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection on strange-colored wastewater from the wood processing factory of Son Thuy Joint Stock Company (Son Thuy Company) located in Mong Hoa commune, Hoa Binh city.
The report content shows: At the inspection, representatives of the local government and people of Dong Giang village (Mong Hoa commune) reported that there are 4-5 operating companies in the hamlet that discharge waste into the Vietnamese sausagey stream through the hamlet. For about a year now, the Vietnamese sausagey stream through the hamlet has occasionally been black, cloudy, or yellow, and sometimes has a pungent smell... This is the first time the pink wastewater has been discharged.
Currently, some households in the area do not dare to use well water for daily activities, people have to draw water from the hills for drinking.
Through the actual inspection on October 25, the inspection team verified that the Vietnamese sausagey water through the drainage ditch between Son Thuy Company and Tien Dat Company was no longer pink; on the surrounding wall of Son Thuy Company, the inspection team discovered traces of pink streaks in some holes, these holes have been sealed. Therefore, the reflection of Lao Dong Newspaper about Son Thuy Company discharging strange colored wastewater into the environment is well-founded.
In addition, after reviewing the report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province issued Decision No. 2283 dated October 31 on administrative sanctions in the field of environmental protection against Son Thuy Company, with a total fine of 320 million VND.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hoa Binh also requested enterprises to prepare dossiers for environmental licensing and submit them to competent licensing authorities according to regulations before November 15; Request the People's Committee of Hoa Binh city to strengthen inspection and supervision of compliance with environmental protection laws for establishments and production and business establishments in Mong Hoa commune; grasp and handle people's reflections on violations of environmental protection laws by establishments in the area.
Lao Dong newspaper published an article titled “Pink water discharged from a wood factory in Hoa Binh”, reflecting on the concern of Mong Hoa commune residents because of the strange-colored wastewater from the wood processing factory of Son Thuy Joint Stock Company. Immediately after that, Hoa Binh City Police and related units established an inspection team and discovered a series of violations by this enterprise.
