Waste accumulates, unpleasant odor
The area along the Nhat Le River, parallel to Truong Phap street, Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province, is considered one of the destinations with beautiful scenery, facing the sea, concentrating many restaurants and hotels and attracting a large number of people and tourists.
However, recording the reality on April 1, along the riverbank, a situation of garbage accumulation and drifting ashore appeared, causing unsightliness and significantly affecting the environment as well as people's lives.

According to records, domestic waste, spiritual waste such as fruits, votive paper, along with many styrofoam boxes, packaging, buoys, bottles... are scattered right next to the pedestrian path. Not only causing disorder, these piles of garbage also emit unpleasant odors, especially during hot weather, making many people exercising and walking feel frustrated.
Mr. Pham Hong Thang - a resident of Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province - said that he usually walks for exercise along the riverbank twice a day in the morning and evening. However, the clean and beautiful landscape above the bank is completely opposite to the pollution below the water's edge.
Foam, styrofoam boxes and many types. Occasionally smelling of animal carcasses. This loses the beauty of the river" - Mr. Thang said.

Through observation, the affected area stretches from Hai Thanh bridge to near Nhat Le lighthouse, forming stretches of garbage. Not only one location, many neighboring areas also have similar garbage situations, showing that pollution is taking place on a large scale.
Local people said that garbage often drifts ashore with the water, accumulating more and more, especially after high tides. If not collected in time, the amount of garbage will quickly smell, causing environmental pollution.
Returning green space to the riverbank
At this time, Quang Tri province is entering the peak of the tourist season. The number of visitors flocking to beaches and riverside areas is increasing. However, the presence of waste not only causes offense but also directly affects the tourism image of the locality.
Mr. Nguyen The Tuong - a resident of Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province - shared that some types of waste such as styrofoam boxes and packaging can also be easily collected and treated. However, throwing animal carcasses into the river is a serious problem.
At least the river carrying that corpse has been decomposing for more than a week. For example, if dogs are thrown into the river, the river will have to'endure', and people and tourists will also have to endure the smell. The smell of them is very unpleasant" - Mr. Tuong said.

According to people, this situation is not new but has been repeated many times, especially after large floods. It is worth mentioning that the awareness of a part of individuals in littering and treating waste is still limited, causing many difficulties in maintaining environmental sanitation.
On the afternoon of April 1st, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Dan - Chairman of Dong Hoi Ward People's Committee - said that the locality will soon deploy actual inspection and survey. At the same time, the ward will mobilize forces to collect and treat the above-mentioned waste, in order to restore a clean and beautiful landscape to the area.

On April 2nd, after the reflection of Lao Dong Newspaper, local authorities quickly mobilized forces to salvage the amount of garbage accumulated along the banks of the Nhat Le River.
According to reporters' records on the same evening, most of the smelly waste in the river has been collected and collected for treatment. Thanks to that, the riverside space has become more airy and clean, creating a comfortable feeling for people and tourists when walking.
