Early morning of October 24, Phu Tho General Hospital performed surgery to remove organs from a brain-dead donor and transplant 2 kidneys to 2 patients with kidney failure at the unit. The remaining organs, including the heart and liver, were transferred to 2 patients at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital for transplant.
Previously, a 17-year-old male patient suffered a traffic accident, multiple injuries, and severe traumatic brain injury and was transferred to Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital.
Due to the severity of the injury, despite emergency surgery and intensive resuscitation measures, no miracle occurred.
After three evaluations by the Brain Death Diagnosis Council, Phu Tho General Hospital advised the family about organ donation to save many people and received the consent of the patient's family.
After completing the necessary legal procedures, Phu Tho General Hospital coordinated with experts from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital to review and search for people eligible for organ transplants from this donor.
The process of removing the two kidneys, heart and liver from the donor was quick and smooth. According to initial assessments, the transplanted organs were of good quality.
Currently, all 4 patients who received heart, liver, and kidney transplants in the first hours after transplant have good prognosis.
This noble act not only brings hope and new life to patients facing serious illnesses, but also demonstrates humanity, sharing and responsibility towards society.
