Quang Tri - The police force and organizations and unions have contributed working days to build sturdy houses for the poor.

In Quang Tri province, the mountainous district of Dakrong is home to a large number of ethnic minorities, and people’s lives still face many difficulties. In this district, there are nearly 900 poor and near-poor households facing housing difficulties.

Therefore, when the Ministry of Public Security had a project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, near-poor households, and ethnic minorities, Quang Tri Provincial Police directed Dakrong District Police to coordinate with the locality to implement it.

After screening, there are 150 households in need of urgent housing support. These households are on the list approved by the Dakrong District People's Committee as poor households and near-poor households receiving support of 40 million VND to build houses, but the implementation has not been possible. If they receive additional support of 50 million VND/house from the Ministry of Public Security's project, the construction of 150 houses can begin immediately.

Determining the subjects to ensure conditions and in accordance with the direction, Quang Tri Provincial Police decided to coordinate with Dakrong district to build 150 new houses for 150 households (each house costs 90 million VND) in Huong Hiep, Ta Rut, Mo O, A Ngo, A Bung communes...

In mid-November 2024, construction of houses in Dakrong commune began. To save costs, the police youth union and local organizations and unions supported working days to build houses. Just 1 month later, 33 houses were completed ahead of schedule and immediately handed over to the people.

The houses are built according to the 36B prefabricated house model of the Ministry of Public Security with the "3 hard" house standard: hard foundation, hard frame - wall, hard roof and "2 stable": stable land, stable residence. This house model has been adjusted, basically suitable for the geographical conditions, weather, customs and living habits of ethnic minorities.

Mr. Ho Van Suong (residing in Cat village, Dakrong commune) is one of 33 households that received a newly built charity house. Smiling while sitting in the sturdy, tall house, Mr. Suong said that now his family has a stable place to live, only worrying about working in the fields and not having to worry about the rain and wind anymore.

According to the set schedule, by the end of 2025, 150 houses will be completed and handed over to 150 households in Dakrong district.

Colonel Nguyen Duc Hai - Director of Quang Tri Provincial Police - said that each new house built and handed over to households contributes to spreading the humane and meaningful policy of the Ministry of Public Security in the journey of joining hands to achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide. Therefore, the Youth Union of Quang Tri Provincial Police and Dakrong District Police will continue to mobilize union members and youth to contribute working days, and work with construction units to speed up the construction progress of the houses to hand over on time, helping people stabilize their lives soon.
