On June 15, Phong Du Ha Commune Police said that the unit had just promptly prevented a case of fraud and appropriation of property in cyberspace by impersonating delivery staff, helping people avoid losing 33 million VND.
Previously, Ms. T.T. D (born 2002, residing in Ngan Vang village, Phong Du Ha commune) received a call from a person claiming to be a shipper requesting to transfer freight money to receive goods.
After Ms. D. transferred 33,000 VND, the subject continued to fabricate a story about the account being registered for a goods insurance package and being deducted 33 million VND per month.
To create trust, the subjects asked the victim to share the phone screen via the Messenger application to support contract cancellation. After that, they continued to spread false information that Ms. D. had to prove her financial capacity by transferring all 33 million VND to the designated account.
Believing the suspect, on the morning of June 15, Ms. D. brought 33 million VND to a phone store in the area to carry out a transaction. Detecting unusual signs, Phong Du Ha Commune Police quickly intervened, directly explained the fraud trick and persuaded Ms. D. to stop transferring money.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the police force, the victim was not appropriated 33 million VND by the subjects.
Through the incident, Phong Du Ha Commune Police recommends that people need to be vigilant against calls from strangers claiming to be shippers, bank employees or functional agencies.
Absolutely do not provide personal information, bank accounts, OTP codes; do not share phone screens, access strange links or install applications as requested by strangers.
When detecting suspicious signs, people need to immediately stop transactions and contact the nearest police agency for support and timely handling.
