As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, in 2022, Mr. Nguyen Cong Truong (a blind person residing in Hung Phuc commune, Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An) signed a contract to rent a 60m2 apartment building at 38 Luong The Vinh, Vinh city with the owner, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, for a period of 5 years.
The contract clearly states the rental price is 4.5 million VND/month, after 2 and a half years it will be adjusted up or down 10% depending on the market price.
After that, Mr. Truong and 3 other blind people opened a massage parlor here to make a living.
At the end of October 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung suddenly requested to increase the rent to 7 million VND/month.
Mr. Truong could not afford to pay so he did not agree. On the morning of November 11, Ms. Dung sent someone to remove the roof in front of the house, in order to pressure Mr. Truong and the other blind people to leave.
The incident was shared by many social media accounts, causing outrage among many people.
On November 14, teacher Nguyen Hoang Yen - former Vice Principal of Le Mao Primary School, Vinh City - took to social media to call on everyone to join hands to support four poor blind people.
“I live far away and only come back to Vinh occasionally, but every time I come back, I always stop by these four friends’ place. It’s not that I really need a massage or acupressure, but I think that by coming here, I can create a little bit of work for them to help them have less trouble.
These past few days, I have seen the press and social networks sharing about these students being in this situation and I feel so sorry for them. I have never been on Facebook to call on friends to help anyone. If I see a case that needs help, I will help myself. But this time, I really want my brothers, sisters, and friends to join hands to support these four visually impaired students so that they can overcome these difficult days and stabilize their lives," said teacher Nguyen Hoang Yen.
At the same time, Ms. Yen also posted Mr. Nguyen Cong Truong's account number for everyone to support.
Many people responded and sent support money to Mr. Truong's personal account.
On the morning of November 16, speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Cong Truong shared: “I have received some support money from benefactors sent to my personal account, due to poor eyesight (he only has 1/10 vision in both eyes), I have not been able to count the specifics. I am deeply touched and would like to express my gratitude to Ms. Hoang Yen and everyone, thank you Lao Dong Newspaper.”
It is known that due to pressure from the landlord, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, Mr. Truong had to contact to rent another location, with a price of 5 million/month, stable for 5 years.
However, due to the temporary condition of the new facility, he had to spend about 80 million VND to upgrade and repair. This was too much money for him and his colleagues, so his current situation is very difficult.
