The 2nd "Walking for the Poor" program in 2024 was organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Can Tho City in coordination with related units, responding to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" launched by the Prime Minister.
The total number of registered participants is over 3,000 people, with a route of about 2.5km from Luu Huu Phuoc Park along 30/4 Street, to Quang Trung intersection, back to 30/4 Street, Hoa Binh Avenue to the City People's Committee and back to Luu Huu Phuoc Park.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City - said that in the past 5 years, from the resources contributed to the "For the Poor" Fund, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee - the "For the Poor" Fund Mobilization Committee at all city levels, and member organizations have coordinated to build, repair and hand over 2,819 solidarity houses to poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households, with a budget of over 140 billion VND.
In 2024 alone, the city's "For the Poor" Fund mobilized 26 billion VND, allocated to build and repair over 515 solidarity houses, contributing to reducing the rate of poor and near-poor households in the city.
From the implementation results of the movement, up to now, 100% of poor households that are eligible for construction have been supported to build solidarity houses; the lives of poor and near-poor households have been significantly improved, thereby contributing to strengthening the great solidarity bloc of the entire nation in the city.
"On the occasion of the city organizing the program "Walking for the poor", we hope to receive the attention and support of the city's leaders; earnestly call for and hope to continue to receive the support of agencies, units, businesses, philanthropists... to join hands and contribute through the "For the Poor" Fund of the city and localities, to create resources to care for the poor and households with difficult housing circumstances", Mr. Nhan added.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city presented 10 solidarity houses (each worth 50 million VND) to 10 poor and near-poor households. At the same time, organizations and businesses presented symbolic plaques to support the city's "For the Poor" Fund in the past time with an amount of more than 4.2 billion VND.
