Hundred billion VND hospital in poor district of Tuyen Quang is more than half abandoned

    Tuyen Quang - Lam Binh District General Hospital project with an investment of nearly 165 billion VND, after nearly 10 years of implementation and operation, is currently not even half of its items are left unfinished.

    The Lam Binh District General Hospital (Tuyen Quang) project was approved in 2013 with a total investment of nearly 165 billion VND from the budget, with the Lam Binh District People's Committee as the investor. Up to now, after 10 years of construction and operation, this hundred billion VND hospital has left more than half of its items unused.

    As of mid-December 2024, out of the total of 6 main blocks (numbered in the photo) that have been built and completed, only blocks 1, 2, 3 are currently in use, while blocks 4, 5, 6 and many other items are still vacant.

    With 3 active buildings used as administrative area, pediatrics department, and paraclinical pharmacy department. However, in reality, these 3 buildings do not use all the rooms, most of them are locked. The examination area only has a few people coming to visit.

    Ms. Chau Thi L. (Lang Can commune, Lam Binh) said: "Very few people come here for examination and treatment. Nearly 10 years since it was built, the busiest time was during the COVID-19 pandemic when many people had to be quarantined. Currently, most of the rooms are locked."

    In contrast to the bustling atmosphere of a district hospital, Lam Binh General Hospital is always quiet and desolate. Talking to reporters, Mr. Vu Trong Thanh - Director of Lam Binh General Hospital admitted that for many years, the hospital has only used 3 buildings for staff to work, examine and treat patients, the rest is empty. The construction items have been around for a long time and are deteriorating.

    “Due to many problems and lack of consensus among departments, investors and the hospital (beneficiary), many items have not been accepted and handed over. In addition, the daily demand for medical examination, treatment and care of people in the area is also not high,” said Mr. Thanh.

    The poorest district of Tuyen Quang province

    Lam Binh was established in early 2011. This is the district with the highest poverty rate in Tuyen Quang province at 40.93% (at the end of 2023). Lam Binh district was approved by the Government as one of 74 poor districts according to Decision No. 353/QD-TTg dated March 15, 2022.

    In 2023, the budget revenue of Lam Binh district will reach 25.75 billion VND.
