Sen Lake is located next to West Lake (Hanoi) and is part of a plan to reclaim and renovate it into an intermediate lake to conduct treated wastewater, in order to revive the To Lich River.
According to Lao Dong on February 16, the Sen Lake area (Nhat Tan Ward, Tay Ho District) is located next to the Tay Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant but is currently dry and have no bottom.It is known that Sen Lake was once a place for taking photos and checking in for many tourists and residents of the capital, but now this service business has stopped.In the lake area, there are a number of hutters and temporary houses used by people to store belongings and serve business and services.It is known that Tay Ho District is studying a plan to replenish water for West Lake, then lead the water into To Lich River. According to the plan, the wastewater will be used after treatment from the Tay Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant, through the intermediate lake, Sen Lake, then brought from Tay Lake to To Lich River.Initially, wastewater around West Lake will be collected and treated at the plant. After treatment, the water passes through the factory's filter tank, continuing to flow through Sen Lake to settle, then flowing into West Lake, depending on the regulation of West Lake (dry season at 5.2m and rainy season at 5.7m) to supplement water for To Lich River.Regarding this issue, Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Khuyen informed that after receiving instructions from the Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee at the meeting on February 4, Tay Ho District will chair and coordinate with the Department of Construction to study and absorb the opinions of ministries and branches on adding water to the Red River to To Lich River.The proposed plan is to use water from the Red River and the after-treatment water source of the West Lake Wastewater Treatment Plant to supplement water for the West Lake, through the intermediate lake, Sen Lake, ensuring that it does not affect the ecosystem of the West Lake, then bring the West Lake water into the To Lich River.Previously, on February 4, 2025, at the Headquarters of the City People's Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh chaired a meeting to listen to a report on the plan to supplement water in the To Lich River to improve the environment. In particular, the People's Committee of Tay Ho District is required to manage Sen Lake to carry out renovation, dredging to make an intermediate settling lake and invest in a sewer system to supplement water for West Lake when necessary, creating an environmental landscape and not affecting the ecosystem of West Lake.At the same time, urgently speed up investment procedures and implement investment in the project to complete the wastewater collection system around West Lake area to ensure the complete collection of all wastewater sources around West Lake.
The Hanoi People's Committee also assigned the City's Management Board of Investment and Construction of Technical Infrastructure and Agriculture Projects to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Construction to review all wastewater discharge gates along the To Lich River to supplement the sewer system to thoroughly collect wastewater on both sides of the To Lich River to the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant and study the construction of dams on the To Lich River, and add it to the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment System Project under implementation.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested to synchronously implement many solutions when adding water from the Red River to the To Lich River, not to rush into doing things carelessly or making mistakes in procedures and designs.
