The first stadium of Yen Bai city is being renovated with a new, modern look to serve the cultural and sports needs of the people.
After completing the conquest and establishment of Yen Bai province in 1900, in 1905 the French established a French Foreign Legion barracks to protect their government. To serve the soldiers' lives, in 1927 the French built this stadium to organize festival and soccer activities.
By 1930, the stadium was completed, and since then, France has regularly organized recreational activities here.
In 1954, peace was restored, Yen Bai province decided to restore the football field into a town stadium. In January 1957, the province built a grandstand (the current stage) and a wall surrounding the field in an oval shape.
The most important historical event was on September 25, 1958, when the Government delegation led by President Ho Chi Minh visited Yen Bai province. During his time in the province, at the request of President Ho Chi Minh, the Provincial Administrative Committee chose the town stadium as the rally venue for Uncle Ho to speak to the people of all ethnic groups in the province.
