Hanoi - The Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass is entering the construction acceleration phase. Workers work continuously, trying to bring the project to the finish line on schedule.
In the last days of May, on the large construction site of Kim Dong - Liberation tunnel (Hoang Mai district), the construction atmosphere took place hustle and urgently. Workers divide the shift continuously, operating machines without rest, all are racing together to keep the progress of one of the key transport projects of the capital in the period of 2021 - 2025.According to Mr. Le Huu Giap, Deputy General Director of Construction Investment Company 3, the construction unit, dozens of workers and modern equipment were mobilized to work in 3 consecutive shifts. Many items have been basically completed such as the tunnel segments on the Dam Hong side, retaining walls, access roads and technical infrastructure systems connecting to Dinh Cong Street.On the Kim Dong - Giai Phong side, 2 out of 4 tunnel sections have been completed. Currently, the construction force is focusing on implementing the remaining sections (H3B, H4B), pumping stations and road systems on both sides of the tunnel.In particular, at Giap Bat station, where the North-South railway line passes through - workers are constructing support beams to prepare for the tunnel excavation phase under the railway. It is expected that this part will be completed in June 2025.The Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass project started construction in October 2022, with a total investment of 778 billion VND, invested by the Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. The total length of the route is 890m, including a closed tunnel, an open tunnel and an approach road. When completed in early 2026, the project will help reduce traffic pressure at the southern gateway area of Hanoi, while effectively connecting with the Ring Road 2.5.Not only a simple infrastructure project, the Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass will also play a strategic role in the future, when this area will become a multi-layered intersection between roads, national railways and urban railways.
The Kim Dong - Giai Phong underpass is one of the key items of the entire Ring Road 2.5. While the underpass construction is being accelerated, the Ring Road 2.5 project is facing many difficulties, especially the prolonged delay due to problems in site clearance for the Dam Hong - National Highway 1A section.
After many years of stagnation, on May 27, Hoang Mai - Hanoi Construction Investment Company Limited held a restart ceremony for the construction of the Ring Road 2.5 project, Dam Hong - National Highway 1A section, in Hoang Mai district, Hanoi.
The project is invested in the form of a BT (build - transfer) contract, with a total length of 1.6km and an investment of more than 1,300 billion VND. The restart of this section is expected to unblock the entire Ring Road 2.5, creating momentum to promote the development of urban traffic in the South of the Capital.
HCMC - The Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road has been put into operation, but the underpass at the Truong Chinh - Tan Ky Tan Quy intersection has not been constructed yet.
