Novel "Cuc giau dong" depicts the tragedy of beauties of the Tran Dynasty

Vietnam Women's Publishing House has just introduced to readers the historical novel "Cuc giau dong" by author Pham Giai Quynh.

The novel "Cuc Giau Dong" is inspired by a famous wrongful conviction case during the Tran Dynasty, revolving around the character Tran Thu Quan (Dong Cuc) - a talented but ill-fated girl. The work is told through the memories of the main character in his later years, when the past has become a thing of the past.

From there, the story takes readers back to the peaceful teenage years in a well-mannered, poor but warm family, many generations following the profession of writing, teaching and saving people.

Tran Thu Quan's childhood appears with beautiful memories: harmonious family, being educated, writing poetry, having a first love promised. However, the upheaval that happened broke everything. From a peaceful home, she fell into a lonely state, carrying injustice, drifting to find ways to demand justice.

The work uses a slow, thoughtful narrative, like a seemingly gentle memoir but containing many layers of undercurrents. The more beautiful the memory, the more bleak the reality becomes. The upheavals of the court, the conspiracies in the royal palace have drawn a family into the vortex of power, making them victims in a turbulent historical context.

The highlight of the book is the association of personal fate with historical events, especially the wrongful case related to Hue Vu Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Chan, leading to many innocent people suffering consequences. Through this, the work not only reflects the tragedy of a person, a family but also suggests the tragedy of an entire dynasty that is coming to decline.

Besides the content, "Cuc giau dong" also vividly recreates the ancient social spirit with the elegant lifestyle of the calligraphy class: from the hobby of playing flowers, writing poetry, to the lifestyle and traditional cuisine. Through each page, images of people preserving their character and morality in a turbulent era are clearly depicted.

With an emotional and in-depth approach, the work brings readers many reflections on human fate before the flow of history.
