The dialogue between Mr. Vu Dai Thang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee with workers on the afternoon of May 29 had very noteworthy information.
That is the review of allocating land funds to invest in building Trade Union Facilities (including developing social housing for workers) which has been concerned and considered by the City People's Committee and identified in the direction of the 100-year vision of the Capital's overall plan, concretized into specific goals and solutions.
And currently in the City, 92 social housing development projects are being implemented (including multi-purpose urban area projects combining resettlement housing, social housing, commercial housing), diversifying types of housing for sale, rental housing... serving social security for workers and students.
Hanoi currently has about 2.7 million workers, more than 70% living in boarding houses. If you add students and freelancers, millions of people may be renting accommodation to make a living and study in the heart of the Capital.
They are the force that directly creates wealth, contributes to economic growth, operates factories, businesses and services of the city. However, this force has long been in the "weaker group" in accessing suitable housing.
Therefore, Hanoi's promotion of social housing development (including multi-purpose urban area projects combining resettlement housing, social housing, commercial housing), diversifying types of housing for sale, rental housing... at this time, first of all, opens up great housing opportunities for this group of subjects.
This was emphasized by Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee Vu Dai Thang at the dialogue, with the view of not trading social security and workers' rights for mere growth.
And Hanoi city also committed and affirmed that it will seriously implement the Central Government's policy on developing social housing, rental housing for low-income people and workers.
Of course, from policy to reality, there is still much to be done.
In which, the most important thing is the completion time of the projects. And workers not only need a place to live, but they also need apartments near their workplace, reasonable purchase and rental prices, with transportation, schools, healthcare and accompanying cultural facilities.
If 92 projects are completed but are far from industrial parks, rents are still high, or access procedures are too difficult, and there is a lack of synchronization in infrastructure and trade union institutions, the social security efficiency will be significantly limited.
Conversely, the benefits are not only limited to workers having better accommodation, but businesses and cities also benefit because they retain workers and reduce pressure on spontaneous boarding houses, improve urban quality and create a foundation for sustainable growth.
