Accepting to live in poverty to reduce the burden of costs

In a rented room of about 30m2 in the Viet Hung area, Ms. Nguyen Khanh Linh's family of 4 people is trying to manage to maintain their lives amidst the pressure of costs in the Capital.

The house is small, so all activities are packed in this room. The children study here, the whole family eats and drinks and sleeps in this room every night" - Ms. Linh shared.

Each month, her family has to pay 3.5 million VND for rent. In return for a "easier" price compared to the general level, she accepts a working distance of more than 10km per day.

According to Ms. Linh, although life is still inconvenient, the family still has to try to stick with it because the current rental price of apartments is too high.

Currently, the total income of Ms. Linh and her husband is about 35 million VND/month. However, after paying for rent, food, electricity, water, and schooling for the children and many other arising expenses, the remaining amount is not worth much.

I want to rent an apartment for my children to have a better space, but considering it over and over again is still not enough" - Ms. Linh confided.

When hearing information that Hanoi will deploy a number of rental housing projects in June to serve the needs of the people, many workers like Ms. Linh expressed their expectations.

The beneficiaries of the rental housing policy will be very broad.

At a recent meeting on rental housing projects, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested units to immediately implement a number of key projects before June 15.

In which, for the student housing project in Phap Van - Tu Hiep area, the City Civil Engineering Construction Investment Project Management Board urgently deploys, taking advantage of existing designs to accelerate progress and save costs.

According to reporters' records, 4 buildings belonging to the Student Housing Project in Phap Van - Tu Hiep urban area are being rebuilt after a long period of abandonment. The building blocks have been painted to complete the exterior, and are currently enclosed with mesh and scaffolding to serve construction. The interior has not been completed.

On May 25, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and leaders of ministries and sectors worked with the Hanoi People's Committee on housing development in the Capital, showing the clear orientation of the Party, State and Government towards the housing sector - a particularly important issue for people's lives. According to the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, the beneficiaries of the rental housing policy will be very broad, including workers, students, armed forces officers, teachers, doctors, reporters and many other groups of workers.

Previously, Hanoi had implemented a number of rental housing models for workers, students and social housing for rent, but the rental conditions were still strict, and the scale and level of attention were not commensurate with actual needs.

The Government's new viewpoint is to develop the rental real estate market in a long-term direction, serving the actual housing needs of the people, not aimed at owning or speculating and accumulating assets. Housing must truly be a place to live, to improve the quality of life of the people" - Chairman of the City People's Committee said.

Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee especially emphasized the study of adjusting to increase the proportion of social housing for rent.

And this ratio was once regulated at about 20%, but now it is necessary to study raising it back to a more appropriate level, possibly about 20-30% depending on each project.
