This transformation and change comes from the fact that there are over 1,000 tourism projects with capital of tens of thousands of billions of VND invested by domestic investors in many different forms and scales.
In particular, many large-scale tourism complexes have been invested in and built in Sa Pa, Ha Long, Sam Son, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Phu Quoc... which have greatly contributed to improving the quality of the infrastructure system, forming many tourism products with strong brands and high competitiveness, attracting tourists.
However, up to now, service infrastructure is still one of the weakest points of Vietnam's tourism - only reaching 2.2 points (ranked 80) according to the report on Vietnam's Tourism Development Index (TTDI) in 2023, announced at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in May.
The lack of modern and asynchronous infrastructure is one of the reasons why the tourism industry has not been able to maximize its potential, affecting the immediate goal of welcoming 17-18 million international tourists in 2024. As well as the long-term goal of welcoming 50 million international visitors and 160 million domestic visitors by 2030, turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector as set out in Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW of the Politburo.
To truly be a spearhead, Vietnam tourism needs to continue to attract investment in many areas, including service infrastructure. However, to attract investment, it is necessary to remove barriers and bottlenecks related to the legal framework and policy mechanisms, through streamlining the licensing process, preferential tax and land policies; standardizing evaluation criteria and star-rating according to international standards, and open foreign investment attraction policies...
The removal is largely the responsibility of the Government and central ministries and branches. However, in the meantime, success or failure is still decided by local government leaders through creating a truly open, transparent and transparent investment environment in their localities.
This has shown results in practice, as the report on “New trends in tourism development investment in Vietnam” by the Institute for Tourism Development Research (ITDR) affirmed: Any locality that is proactive, resolute in calling for and creating the most favorable conditions for investors in handling procedures for granting investment certificates, handing over clean land and accompanying incentive mechanisms, that locality attracts many large-scale and quality tourism investment projects. From there, it significantly changes the appearance of the destination, bringing important advantages in competing to attract tourists!
