Strong growth rate
Vietnam has become Australia’s fastest growing tourism market, with more Australian tourists visiting Vietnam than before the pandemic. The number of tourists from Vietnam to Australia has increased significantly since COVID-19.
This is the result of a partnership between the two governments. The Australian Government has provided funding for a number of initiatives to attract Vietnamese tourists, including the Vietnam Host Program, a new online training program delivered by the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC). ATEC’s programs are designed by leading industry experts to help Australian businesses better understand the needs of Vietnamese tourists and how to attract tourists from Vietnam. From there, businesses can build attractive tourism products that suit the tastes of Vietnamese tourists to promote the growth of this market.
Mr. Don Farrell - Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism - said that promoting tourism between countries is extremely urgent after the pandemic. Mr. Farrell expressed his delight at the strong growth rate of the tourist market from Vietnam.
“This is supporting Australian tourism businesses to grow stronger and more sustainably,” the Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism said. “Tourism is a key component of our strong relationships with the fast-growing economies of Southeast Asia.”
On the other hand, in the first 9 months of the year, about 355,000 Australian visitors came to Vietnam, putting this market in the top 10 markets sending visitors. Compared to 2019, the Australian market has fully recovered and exceeded 2019, with a growth of 122% over the same period.
Enhance two-way customer exchange
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, factors such as convenient direct flights, simple entry and exit procedures, attractive destinations and tourism products, along with warm and hospitable people, are all ideal conditions to promote tourism development between Vietnam and Australia.
Last September, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism organized a program to introduce Vietnam tourism in Perth and Melbourne (Australia), Auckland (New Zealand). Through the event, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, localities, and Vietnamese tourism businesses introduced policies, destinations, and tourism products to the Australian market; creating opportunities to connect, establish business cooperation relationships, and attract tourists from the Australian region to travel to Vietnam and vice versa.
Previously, in response to Lao Dong, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski said: “I am very pleased that tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Australia has recovered. These are deliberate efforts by the Government to promote two-way tourism. This was achieved quite easily because Vietnam is a very attractive destination.”
The Australian government has facilitated the doubling of flights by Vietnamese airlines such as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air to this country.
Mr Goledzinowski said the Australian Government was also working with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and provincial authorities in Vietnam to promote Vietnam as a destination for Australians. “We see a strong connection between business and leisure travel, as well as tourism and education, and we hope that these will grow together, spreading the good things about Vietnam,” he said.
