Eliminate achievement diseases to restore honesty to education

Abolish study rankings, not publicize exam scores and tests of students to thoroughly resolve the problem of educational achievements.

The above is the opinion of Mr. Nguyen Quang Huan - Member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, a delegate of the 15th National Assembly at the 5th Conference of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to discuss and comment on draft documents submitted to the 14th National Party Congress.

According to Mr. Huan, the draft has raised the requirement to "improve the quality of education and training of human resources, especially high-quality human resources", but in reality, the mentality of "faculty groups, preferring degrees" is still popular, and exams are not serious.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huan was straightforward when talking about the disease of achievements, saying: "This is still a painful reality of our country's education system".

A very correct assessment, true to reality.

Graduated arthritis is a common disease in society. This disease arose in the educational environment, from the time an innocent child hugged a pair of books to school.

Teachers give students high scores to get personal achievements, parents take their children's high scores as a reason to satisfy, even show off, considering their children as outstanding talents.

In society, adults also follow degrees, some educational institutions were once considered "doctorate clubs" to meet market demand. The disease of achievements is widespread, many people run to get degrees to make decorations, many are professors, and many have doctors, but there are very few scientific works in fact.

Preventing achievement diseases must start from within the school, this is a strategy for training people with a broad vision.

A child who is not pressured to achieve results, does not grow up in an environment that values formal things, will be truly valued and truly talented when he or she grows up.

Regarding changing student assessment in the direction of eliminating achievements, from the 2024 - 2025 school year, schools have applied a synchronous method of checking, evaluating, and classifying academic performance according to the instructions of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT in all classes.

The Circular 22 stipulates that academic performance is classified into 5 levels: Good, good, average, weak, poor and replaces it with an assessment of learning outcomes according to 4 levels: Good, good, achievable, not achievable. In particular, there is no longer the title of advanced student in the school.

Change the way of evaluating and classifying academic performance to move towards comprehensive education.

Without burdening physical diseases and eliminating achievements in education, teachers will not be pressured because they follow the emulation movements of the industry. Teachers have time to improve their expertise, teach better, and replace meaningless certificates of merit.

Eliminate achievement diseases, focus on substance, will train generations of students with creative thinking and honest qualities.
