Excess passengers + no driver's license = 102 million VND + 10 days of vehicle detention

A driver and bus owner were just fined 102 million VND by the Traffic Police for carrying more passengers than allowed and a series of other violations.

At 6:00 p.m. on February 2 (the 5th day of Tet), a working group from Team 3, Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security stopped and inspected a passenger car with license plate 36H-085.XX, traveling on Phap Van - National Highway 45 (Thanh Hoa - Hanoi direction).

The task force discovered that there were 56 people on the vehicle, 10 more than the regulation, and the driver could not present a driver’s license. For these violations, driver L.V.S and the vehicle owner will be fined 102 million VND and have their vehicle impounded for 10 days.

This is a case of a large fine for traffic violations, a lesson for all car owners and bus drivers across the country.

For many years now, especially during Tet, the situation of passenger buses carrying more passengers than the prescribed number has been very common. Passengers sit on extra seats, crowding the aisles between two rows of seats. There have been cases where drivers have "locked" passengers in the cargo hold.

Those are "stormy trips", passengers are crammed and even "ripped off" by the bus company. Passengers are upset but have to pay because once they get on the bus, they accept the "law of the jungle" of the bus company.

The report "People "bitterly" endure the increase in ticket prices and overcrowding after Tet" on Lao Dong TV on February 2 recorded the opinions of some passengers, showing that many buses are overcrowded. Many bus operators take advantage of Tet to make money, taking risks, disregarding regulations on the number of passengers on each type of bus.

Decree 168 applied to life has created positive changes, people and transport businesses are increasingly aware of strictly complying with traffic laws. However, there are still cases of disregard for the law, disregard for the health and lives of passengers, including the problem of overcrowding.

Detecting drivers who violate traffic laws and severely punishing them is the way to rectify and restore traffic order and safety. Civilized traffic means there cannot be a situation of stuffing passengers or leaving passengers in the luggage compartment.

However, one thing to note is that passengers should not accept to ride in crowded buses. If everyone refuses to get on a bus that is full of passengers and has no seats, the bus company will not have the opportunity to make money by violating the regulations.
